September Update – September 2026
Since publishing our Fiscal Update, Forecast Evaluation Report and Statement of Data Needs in August, the Scottish Fiscal Commission has continued to engage with Parliament and stakeholders on Scotland’s economic and fiscal outlook. We have also received confirmation of the date of the next Scottish Budget, when we will publish our next independent forecasts.
2027-28 Scottish Budget
The Deputy First Minister has written to our Chair to confirm that the Scottish Government plans to present its 2027-28 Budget on Thursday 3 December 2026. You can read the letter here: https://bit.ly/4ciN7w8 We will publish our next forecasts – Scotland’s Economic and Fiscal Forecasts – at the same time as the Budget. Our report will present our five-year forecasts of the the Scottish economy, tax revenues, social security spending, and an overview of the Scottish Government’s fiscal position.

Following publication of our Fiscal Update, Forecast Evaluation Report and Statement of Data Needs, on Wednesday 2 September we gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Finance and Public Administration Committee.
