Forthcoming Publications
Tuesday 13 January 2026 – Scotland’s Economic and Fiscal Forecasts
These forecasts are part of the Commission’s main forecast publication series and will provide new economic, tax and social security forecasts to accompany the 2026-27 Scottish Budget and Spending Review. They will be published when the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government completes her statement to Parliament.
Future Engagement
We are thinking about how we can improve how we engage with our stakeholders. Should we develop new outputs, perhaps blogs, podcasts or more videos? Should we change our approach to our formal publications, our online events, or our social media activity?
We’re also thinking about which topics we cover – are there particular issues we should cover in more depth, or at different levels of detail?
We’re at a very early stage so if you have any feedback or ideas please do tell us! info@fiscalcommission.scot.
Recent Publications
16 September 2025 – Fiscal Sustainability Perspectives: Climate Change Mitigation
This publication explored how climate change mitigation could affect the Scottish Government’s Budget. Using updated data, it estimated the cost of reaching net zero by 2045 for the Scottish Government and outlined the information the Government’s Climate Change Plan needs to include to allow us to assess the fiscal risks of mitigation. The report, and a recording of the Webinar held on 17 September is available here: Fiscal Sustainability Perspectives: Climate Change Mitigation – September 2025 | Scottish Fiscal Commission.

11 November 2025 – Scottish median incomes fact sheet: Scottish Fiscal Commission estimates update – November 2025
As well as publishing our headline forecasts, we work to help people understand the wider fiscal context in Scotland. As part of this, we regularly publish supplementary figures to help explain Scottish taxes, social security spending, and the wider Scottish budget.
One example of this is the figures we have previously published on median incomes in Scotland. Following heightened public interest in these figures, as well as several direct requests to the Commission for more information about these figures, we thought it would be helpful to publish this fact sheet with our latest estimates of median incomes, as well as explaining some of the complexity around these figures. The fact sheet is available here: Scottish median incomes fact sheet: Scottish Fiscal Commission estimates update – November 2025 | Scottish Fiscal Commission
16 October 2025 – Statement of Voluntary Application of the Code of Practice for Statistics
The Commission seeks to adhere to the highest standards for analysis possible. While we do not produce official statistics (we produce forecasts), the Commission voluntarily applies as much as possible the UK Statistics Authority’s Code of Practice for Statistics. The recently updated statement is available here: Statement of Voluntary Application of the Code of Practice for Statistics and Error Policy | Scottish Fiscal Commission
